Brakes are one of the most important parts on your vehicle. You'll want to carefully maintain your brakes. With disc brakes, brake pads pinch onto a disc (or rotor) to slow the wheels.
If you hear squealing or grinding when you use the brakes its time that you should probably schedule to have a certified technician check them out. They'll perform a thorough brake inspection, of your vehicle's brake pads, rotors, calipers, brake hoses/lines, & brake fluid. We want to make sure your vehicle is safe to drive and your brakes will perform according to the vehicle's manufacture specifications at all times.
The brake pads, held in place by the caliper, squeezes against the inside and outside surface of the rotor. (Picture how squeezing the handbrake on a bicycle squeezes the brake pads against the wheel of the bike, this works in a similar fashion.)
Each time you apply your brake pedal, brake pads wear away – kind of like a pencil eraser wears out. The good news is that replacing brake pads is a straight-forward repair. Most vehicle manufactures recommend replacing the pads and rotors at the same time to prevent noise, and also most pads and rotors wear equally. Rotors today are made from such a hard material that turning the rotors (resurfacing) can cost almost the same if not more than the cost of replacing the rotors.
Our technician will recommend the best repair/replacement that is needed, whether its time to replace the pads/rotors or if there are other issues with your brakes that should be addressed.
Brake calipers also wear out over time. They can develop leaks or the caliper pistons can freeze open or closed – either way it's not good. When this happens it's time to replace the calipers.
A thorough brake inspection will reveal whether or not your vehicle has worn bearings or leaking axle seals as well.
The new brake pads we put on your vehicle will restore your brakes to manufacturers' specifications. Or, we can install upgraded parts to increase your stopping power and reduce brake noise and brake dust. We have several options to meet your braking requirements and your budget.
Maintaining your brakes keeps them working safely – and could prevent premature brake repairs down the road.
